Whitewood’s Expertise in Material Reuse

Author: Valérie Vermandel

Our ambition aligns is clearly reflected in the percentage of reused materials integrated into our projects, and with each new attemp, our aspirations stretches higher.

At Whitewood, we firmly believe that the more sustainable a project is, the more circular it becomes. In today’s real estate landscape, it is imperative to incorporate the principle of reuse into projects, not just at the dismantling stage (commonly known as circularity).

Why? Because in 15-20 years, when these projects require review, simply knowing how to manage them will pose a significant challenge.

This is where urban mining emerges as the most sustainable element, and Whitewood stands as a pioneer.

Our  Muse : MULTI

A prime example illustrating our commitment is evident in the entrance to the Multi project, where various elements have been selected for their sustainable origins.

From the entrance sourced from Place du Brugge to the light profiles salvaged from the facade, and even the terracotta tiles repurposed from a building in Paris, every detail embodies our dedication to material reuse.

Even the wood, though less visible, contributes to our circularity tendency by being recycled.

Additionally, in 2024, one of our Whitewood partners, Valérie Vermandel, was selected to sit on the board of director of Rotor, further solidifying our commitment to driving sustainability initiatives forward.

Key Collaboration: Whitewood & ROTOR

Our partnership with ROTOR is a a sign of our commitment to sustainable practices.

Together, particularly in the Multi project, we showcased our ability to integrate reused materials and preserve original structures. Through collaborations like these, we set a precedent for material reuse in construction, promoting flexibility, dismantlability, and alignment with market readiness for large-scale material reuse.

Setting a New Benchmark

Whitewood’s achievements of increasing the reuse of materials in construction to 8% represent a significant milestone in our journey towards sustainability.

By prioritizing circularity and embracing the principles of urban mining , we are reshaping the construction landscape and ensuring that our projects not only stand the test of time but also contribute to a more resilient and resource-efficient future.
