Together with our partner Immobel, Whitewood purchased this beautiful building in the city centre of Brussels.

The building is located in the heart of the city centre of Brussels, where it is visible from many strategic points, from impressive boulevards to small medieval streets. Changing this building will therefore automatically have an impact on the skyline of Brussels city centre. Some relationships between the urban areas and the building must therefore be carefully considered, especially the interaction with the opera house, as part of the protected zone, and the adjacent protection zone of the Unesco “Grand-Place” zone. Respecting the heights and cleverly balancing the strategic viewpoints will be essential to create a building that fits harmoniously into this environment. Respecting the heights means that strategically located additions to the roof are acceptable, but these additions must never be visible from the Unesco-protected “Grand Place”.
In addition, the area around the building is full of life, with a wide variety of people passing by during different hours of the day, which is reinforced by its excellent location in the metro and close to the central station. Alongside the “rue Neuve”, Brussels’ main shopping street, the Opera House, the Flemish library, the recently renovated pedestrian zone and the various catering facilities, this place is very diverse and lively in the city. Connecting the building to its surroundings, rather than being a monolithic block that stands alone, is the challenge. The commercial renovation has taken a step in that direction, now the ambition of the tower renovation is to take this to a new level. To connect the building to the city.
